Simeiz

LOCATION AND CLIMATE

The famous sea resort, Simeiz is situated 17 km to the west from Yalta, between the Black Sea and the southern side of Crimean mountains, being the part of the so-called "Big Yalta" - chain of resorts, spreaded along the coast.

Located near the bottom of romantic legendary Cat-mountain, Simeiz has several nice beaches with clean water. The town was the favorite place of rest for many Russian noble families since the first half of the XIX-th century, when a fashionable resort had been established here by Count I.A.Maltsov. Picturesque villas and cottages like villas "Mechta" ("Dream") or "Ksenia" still remind of those times.

Defended from cold northern winds by mountains, Simeiz has got warm, moderately dry, mild-subtropical climate, which belongs only to this very part of Crimea. It is warmer in winter and cooler in summer here, than in Yalta. Refreshing breezes weaken summer heat. Plenty of sun, warm sea, evergreen parks and the air itself, breathed easily even in the hottest days and known for its curative effects - all that makes climate very enjoyable.

Mid-year temperature is around +14oC. Summer period lasts for 157 days. Average temperature in August is +24.4oC, in February - +4.1oC. The sun here shines 2600 hours in year, which is more, than in Yalta or Sochi (2490 and 2250 hrs. respectively). Seabathing season lasts from June to October, while temperature of water changes from +17 to +24oC.
